Welcome to the Karaoke
Command Center for the
2011 Gaslight Festival Karaoke Contest!
Sept. 18, 2011
And the winner is ...
Fredrick Russell of Louisville
Fredrick Russell sang
"Breakeven" in the Adults Division Finals last night to win
the contest and the $1,000 prize. The karaoke tent at the
back of the Blankenbaker House lot was packed all day and
far into the night as winners were named in Kids, Teens and
Adults Divisions of the contest. Karaoke Disc Jockey Teri
French shut down the speakers at the stroke of midnight
following an encore by Russell, singing "Bohemian Rhapsody."
Fredrick Russell (left), Amber
Reese, Jessie Alagna and Marcel Williams pose with their
trophies for dozens of shutterbugs following the 2011
Gaslight Festival Karaoke Contest. Tommie Bell had to leave
before the photo shoot.
Amber Renee Sewell
("You Lost Me"), a previous Kids Division winner, took
honors in the Teens Division. And Meadow Drollinger
("Turn On the Radio") won the Kids Division. Points were
accumulated through four rounds and 24 judges to determine
the Adults champion. The Kids and Teens made it through two
rounds (a Semi-Final round was canceled because of a gas
leak at GT's) and 10 judges.
Congratulations to Fredrick Russell, Amber Renee Sewell, Meadow Drollinger and to ALL of the contestants who made the
2011 Gaslight Festival Karaoke contest a fabulous success.
We are now looking forward to our next big event: The Thoroughbred Chorus Annual Show on
Saturday, Dec. 3 at Memorial Auditorium. After Thoroughbreds' President Ron
Brumleve presented the trophy and check, Russell had just one burning question: "Can
I judge in this contest next year?" Absolutely!
Scores for the Top Five
in each division
are in the sidebar at the top right. Check
the Photos page in a couple days
for
more scenes from the contest.

Karaoke Finals held at the Thoroughbred Family Entertainment Pavilion,
a.k.a. the historic Blankenbaker House
There was plenty of food, soft drinks, beer and even Graeter's Ice Cream at the Pavilion.
Activities included inflatable bouncies, a huge
electronic gaming trailer, face painting and LOTS OF
SINGING! We want to thank Ed Hardman for coordinating
the massive effort at the Pavilion.
And in case you were wondering, the
UK vs. UofL
football
game was shown on the big screens away from the contest
stage. The Cards won, 24-17.
The Thoroughbred
Family Entertainment Pavilion opened at 5 pm on Thursday,
prior to the Gaslight Festival Parade and operated
Thursday, Friday and Saturday nights and on Sunday from noon
till 6 pm.

The Thoroughbred
Chorus has performed for the Jeffersontown Gaslight Festival public the
past several years at the Adults Division Finals of the
karaoke contest.
We continued that tradition this year at the
Thoroughbred Family Entertainment Pavilion.
This low-res video was shot with a digital camera by one of
our many fans. We would welcome a submission of a higher
quality video. On the other hand, in this fuzzy version it's
hard to tell which of the short, bald guys is your humble
webmaster.

The Thoroughbreds are proud to sponsor this event for the sixth year
in a row. This year we will use six different venues for qualifying
rounds and we've rented an entire building for the dramatic finals
in all three divisions! More than 140 adults, teens and kids
contestants will cross our stages during a 19-day stretch of
competition.
The contest kicks off tonight with the first Adults
Division qualifying round at Wick's Pizza. We hope you all will come
out to compete, cheer on your friends, scout the competition, or
just watch and have fun!
